International Symposium on Snakebites

Snakebite has been a major health crisis, especially in developing countries and rural tropical areas. In the year 2017, snakebite was recognised as a priority Neglected Tropical Disease and in response, with the support from UK's Department for International Development  (DFID), International Aids Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), along with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Nigeria Snakebite Research & Intervention Centre (Bayero University, Kano), Kenya Snakebite Research & Intervention Centre (Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi), and Scripps Research (La Jolla) united to form a consortium - Scientific Research  Partnership for Neglected Tropical Snakebite (SRPNTS). SRPNTS aims at generating safe, effective, and affordable next-generation snakebite therapies for use across India and Africa.

SRPNTS convened many of the leading Indian scientists, clinicians, herpetologists, as well as activists, dedicated to the work on snakebites, for a day of in-depth discussion regarding exciting scientific progress in the field as well as policy and advocacy aims that will help make bring about much-needed change to address this public health crisis.

SERB School in Chemical Ecology 2018

The Centre for Ecological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, conducted the second annual DST-SERB sponsored School on Chemical Ecology, an intensive two-week-long course to provide an insight into state-of-the-art research areas of Chemical Ecology, with a special emphasis on research on animal venoms and poisons, and plant-animal interactions. Twenty-five young researchers, including master's students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, and young faculty members, were selected at the national level. The School aims to provide an interdisciplinary research environment to build scientific human resources with sound conceptual knowledge and an excellent technical base for teaching and research and to strengthen and nurture the research programs in Chemical Ecology in the country. The School offers the selected young researchers an excellent platform to learn directly from the leading experts in the field of Chemical Ecology.
